Back in Black - AC/DC (1980)

Disco epocale.

Surprisingly also for me, it seems, using the blog research, that I had never written a real review of "Back in Black". So let's do it.
I will not use shortcuts like those of the anecdotes that I imagine are a lot, on this record: I will only say that it is the successor to the already outstanding "Higway to Hell" of 1979, as well as the first record, of the Australian band, after the tragic death of singer Bon Scott, drowned in his own vomit on the night of 19 February 1980, in a Renault 5, at a suburb of London, after a night of heavy drinking.
Now: "Back in Black" is probably one of the most beautiful rock records of the last 40 years, important, unreachable, unforgettable, indispensable. It's made of simple, but perfect music. Each song, each passage, every verse, every chorus, every guitar solo, every vocal line is just perfect. Bass and drums at the service of the songs, rhythm guitar rocking that paints, and the solo one that chisel, the voice of the newcomer Brian Johnson, taken from the band Geordie, that fits perfectly.
Ten songs, one more beautiful than the other. "Hells Bells", which recalls the already mentioned death, a lethal mid-tempo, the speedy "Shoot to Thrill", the upbeat "What Do You Do for Money Honey", the zeppelin-ish "Given the Dog a Bone"; the title-track "Back in Black", with an initial riff that will probably remain as the most popular guitar riff in music history, another master mid-tempo (and almost danceable) with "You Shook Me All Night Long", the hard-blues semi-masterpiece "Have a Drink on Me", the boogie of "Shake a Leg", and the super blues, almost intimate, of "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution", with a title that is almost a manifesto. I missed it, because "dulcis in fundo", or last but not least, my favourite one: "Let Me Put My Love into You", a kind of blues ballad with the allusive lyrics, which for me probably remains the most beautiful song ever written by the band . By the way, the level of songwriting of this record is the highest they have ever achieved. Monumental album.
