Spiegato il mio tardivo interessamento alla band di Tucson, Arizona, nella recensione del loro Algiers del 2012, vi svelerò anche un'altra cosa: spesso, li confondevo con i Wilco. Così, senza un motivo, e senza conoscere bene nessuna delle due band. Detta questa cazzata, passiamo a parlare del nono disco dei Calexico. Vi ricordo che, come sempre, le mie preferenze vanno ai pezzi cantati in spagnolo (Flores y Tamales), quindi sempre pochi, ma la ricerca di fondere l'indie folk statunitense con varie forme di musica latina, è sempre molto interessante, anche perché non ci sono dei dilettanti a farlo. Sentite lo strumentale Unconditional Waltz, basato su trombe mariachi: spettacolare. E che dire della ballata Thrown to the Wild, e della delicatezza dell'ibrido Under the Wheels? Insomma, sempre bravi, i Calexico.
