Nono album per i Radiohead. Per rinfrescarvi la memoria, qui la recensione del precedente The King of Limbs, del 2011, giusto per farvi capire "da che parte sto". Ho amato la band fino a Kid A, per farla molto breve, poi ho stentato sempre più a capirli. Come sapete, apprezzo comunque le band che si mettono continuamente in discussione, che si reinventano, che osano. I risultati, appunto, possono essere spiazzanti, possono essere a volte insopportabili; le persone che sono abbastanza open minded riescono a trovarvi il bello, ma alla fine, la musica che piace è anche, e soprattutto, quella che non riesci a togliere dalla chiavetta USB, che non riesci a smettere di ascoltare.
A Moon Shaped Pool contiene tracce già eseguite più volte live, nella versione che attualmente risponde ai desideri e al mood della band dell'Oxfordshire. E segna un'ulteriore cambio di direzione nella musica della band. L'elettronica diventa marginale, soffusa, sempre presente ma meno invasiva, gli arrangiamenti orchestrali hanno una parte piuttosto importante (già dall'apertura di Burn the Witch), l'atmosfera è eterea, a tratti cupa ma non troppo. Le liriche sono "sul pezzo", attuali, il disco è pieno di momenti belli, intensi, la voce di Yorke è matura, a tratti superba, l'insieme è di altissimo livello.
E allora? E allora, nonostante tutto ciò, ascoltandolo e riascoltandolo, vi accorgerete che molto è ridondante, ripetitivo. Non canterete mai nessuno di questi pezzi sotto la doccia, non sparerete mai questo disco a tutto volume mentre dovete guidare da soli per ore in autostrada. Un po' come disse una volta Jorge Valdano su Fabio Cannavaro: "se il calcio si gioca a tutto campo, Cannavaro vale 5 su 10: perfetto nella sua metà campo, inesistente nell'altra". Chi vuol capire, capisca.

"A Moon Shaped Pool" contains tracks already performed several times live, in the version that is currently responding to the wishes and the mood of the Oxfordshire band. It marks a further change of direction in the band's music. The electronics become marginal, soft, always present but less invasive, orchestral arrangements have a rather important part (already from the opener "Burn the Witch"), the atmosphere is ethereal, sometimes gloomy but not too much. The lyrics are "on track", current, the album is full of beautiful moments, intense, Yorke's voice is mature, the band give superb performance, the entire album is of the highest level.
So what? So, despite all this, listening and listening to it, you will find that much is redundant, repetitive. You will not ever sing any of these tracks in the shower, never will play this at full volume while you have to drive alone for hours along the highway. A bit as he once Jorge Valdano wrote about Fabio Cannavaro: "If football is played all over the field, Cannavaro is worth 5 of 10: perfect in his own half, non-existent in the other half". Who wants to understand, will do.
