Ora: dimenticatevi il Cornell dei Soundgarden, e pure quello degli Audioslave. Peccato. Ma dimenticatevi anche quello di Scream, insieme a Timbaland, il che è un bene. Cosa abbiamo oggi? Una sorta di Michael Bolton (e qui il problema, come sapete, è che a me personalmente Bolton - l'uomo dalle adenoidi d'oro - piace) folk rock, con una grande voce, e che sa scrivere canzoni romantiche con qualche spruzzata ironica nei testi qua e là. Quello che voglio dire è, molto semplicemente, che bisogna dimenticarsi tutto, e ascoltare Higher Truth senza paraocchi o essere prevenuti. Non si può dire sia un brutto disco, non è all'altezza di Euphoria Morning, ma non ha neppure le stesse aspirazioni. Si ascolta Through The Window e ci si commuove, quasi. E, certo, la doppietta con Josephine, sempre se non si ripensa al passato, potrebbe pure portarci a dire che è un buon disco.

Forget the Chris Cornell of Soundgarden. Forget the one of Audioslave. And forget also the one who gave birth to the horrible "Scream" with Timbaland. This last thing is a good thing, by the way. Today, with this "Higher Truth", Chris Cornell is like a Michael Bolton folk rock, with a better songwriting. "Higher Truth" is not "Euphoria Morning", and it has not its expectations. So, if you listen "Through The Window" and the following "Josephine", without thinking who was Chris Cornell, you can almost said that this is a good album.
