Settimo disco per l'inglesina. Era da tempo che non la "incrociavo": ha 28 anni, adesso, mi ricordo ancora adesso il suo esordio quando ne aveva 16, con un disco di cover, e un di lei concerto in quel di Lucca. Nel frattempo, canta ancora scalza, e fa pure l'attrice.
Ora, questo disco ha una particolarità: è nato, quasi per scherzo, dopo l'esperienza deiSuperHeavy, supergruppo formato dalla Stone, Mick Jagger, Dave Stewart, A. R. Rahman e Damian Marley; quest'ultimo pare che, tra il serio e il faceto, abbia proposto a Joss di fare un disco reggae. E l'inglesina lo ha fatto.
Certo, non c'è solo il reggae, ci sono pure influenze irlandesi, indiane, e altre cosette lontane tra di loro, e non è che l'amalgama sia fluido al massimo. Effettivamente, Joss Stone "funziona" meglio quando va sul classico sound soul 'n' blues, come per This Ain't Love, Stuck On You, The Answer, ma non è che Harry's Symphony, Way Oh, Love Me siano brutte. In Wake Up c'è anche Damian Marley (che sembra Eminem, a dirla tutta), e insomma, il disco non è fenomenale, ma è divertente vedere un'artista giovane ma già esperta, che fa quello che le passa per la testa, con sorprendente passione.
