Il quartetto nord irlandese dei The Answer è arrivato al quinto disco (uscito in marzo), li avevo ascoltato ma non ve ne avevo mai scritto. Qualche citazione qua e là. Proviamoci stavolta, visto che per uno di quei collegamenti involontari (cercando dei video di Joss Stone per la rece del suo disco nuovo mi sono imbattuto in uno della sua The Answer, e lì mi son chiesto se la band così chiamata avesse fatto qualcosa ultimamente), sono qua che ascolto con un certo piacere il loro ultimo Raise A Little Hell.
Bene, i The Answer sono di quelle band che non fanno assolutamente niente di nuovo, e neppure ci vogliono provare. Ma sono tra quelle che tengono ben vivo il fuoco dell'hard rock, ispirandosi prima di tutti agli AC/DC (sono invero assurti ad una certa celebrità supportando gli australiani nel tour di Black Ice), come pure ai Led Zeppelin o agli Aerosmith, arrivando perfino a vestirsi come se fossero ancora negli anni '70.
Qualcosa di male? Assolutamente no, finché mettono in piedi dischi come questo.
Che dire: puro divertimento rock, sezione ritmica quadrata e decisa, senza mai strafare, chitarrista che sa riffare e disegnare assoli degni di nota, usando suoni che spaziano da, naturalmente, quelli retrò a suoni moderni, risultando gradevole e duro il giusto, cantante che ricorda tutti quelli delle band citate prima tra le influenze, ma che potrebbe pure ricordare Rod Stewart, con quella predilezione al finto roco, ma che, senza girarci troppo intorno, risulta dannatamente adatto a questo tipo di musica.
Per uno come me, cresciuto a pane e rock dall'età di otto anni, difficile parlare male di band come queste, a patto che non risultino troppo plagiatori. Quindi, per me il pollice è su, anche per questo disco dei The Answer, che, ancora lo devo provare ma son sicuro che è così, è uno di quelli che potresti mettere su durante un lungo viaggio in auto e non togliere mai e poi mai. Potrei dirvi che il mio pezzo preferito è Gone Too Long, giusto per quel passaggio che fa "I apologise, for all the shit I've done", ma probabilmente domani ve ne citerei un altro.

Well, The Answer are one of those bands that do absolutely nothing new, nor they want to. But they are among those who keep very much alive the fire of hard rock, inspired first of all by AC / DC (they have indeed risen to a certain celebrity, opening for the Australians on their Black Ice tour), as well as to Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith, going so far as to dress as if they were still in the 70s.
Something wrong? Absolutely not, as long as they release records like this.
What about: fun rock, rhythm section square and firm, without ever overdoing it, and guitarist who knows how to riff and draws solos worthy of note, using sounds that range from, of course, those retro to modern sounds, resulting pleasant and damn right, singer that reminds every singer of the bands mentioned before between the influences, but that might well remember Rod Stewart, with that predilection to fake hoarse, but that, without too much circled around, is pretty damn good at this kind of music.
For someone like me, grew up with bread and rock from the age of eight, it's difficult to speak badly of bands like these, provided they do not become too plagiarists. So, for me the thumb is up, even for this album, which, I still have to try, but I'm sure that is so, it is one of those that you put on during a long drive and do not remove ever. I could tell you that my favorite piece is "Gone Too Long", just for the quote "I apologize, for all the shit I've done", but probably tomorrow I will prefer another one.
