Mea culpa, mi ero dimenticato dei Puscifer per un bel po' di tempo, tanto è vero che non solo vi parlo di questo disco uscito quasi sei mesi fa, ma volevo anche ricordarvi che tra questo ed il precedente Conditions of My Parole, hanno fatto uscire due EP, Donkey Punch the Night (con due inediti e due cover, Balls to the Walls degli Accept e una meravigliosa versione di Bohemian Rapsody) e All Re-Mixed Up (tutti i pezzi di Conditions remixati, rilavorati o in versioni alternative), entrambi nel 2013.
Detto questo, nonostante siano un'ennesima "invenzione" di M. J. Keenan, da considerare probabilmente un progetto solista seppure "introduca" continuamente musicisti dotati e poco conosciuti, questo è l'ennesimo gran bel disco del poliedrico personaggio (musicista, produttore discografico, produttore di vini, attore), nato, pensate un po', in una piccola cittadina dell'Ohio chiamata Ravenna, e i Puscifer sono una realtà molto interessante del panorama musicale attuale.
Leggendo qualche commento ad uno dei loro video su youtube, me ne è capitato uno che mi ha inizialmente fatto sorridere, prima di riflettere. Diceva qualcosa come "Maynard è come Re Mida: tutto ciò che tocca diventa oro". Beh, pensateci un po', e ditemi voi se non è così: Tool, A Perfect Circle e Puscifer.
Sospeso tra rock, ambient, elettronica, trip hop e alt rock, Money Shot (in gergo porno, una scena che prevede l'eiaculazione di uno degli attori maschi) inanella una serie lunga di belle canzoni, canzoni che creano un mood vagamente cupo, ma delle quali è innegabile la bellezza. Agostina è evidentemente dedicata alla figlia di Maynard e della sua compagna (o moglie, non si sa se la cerimonia sia avvenuta), la manager di laboratorio della casa vinicola Caduceus Cellars, di proprietà di Maynard, Lei Li; Simultaneous è una strampalata narrazione pacifista, The Arsonist e The Remedy sono due gioielli preziosi, e via discorrendo. Da sentire.

That said, despite Puscifer is yet another "invention" of M.J. Keenan, to be considered probably a soloist, although this project "introduces" continually gifted and not so much known musicians (or forgotten ones), this is yet another great beautiful work by this versatile personage (musician, record producer, winemaker, actor), that was born, just think about this, in a small Ohio town called Ravenna, and Puscifer are a very interesting reality of today's music scene.
Reading some comments to one of their videos on youtube, I saw one that I initially made me smile, before reflecting. It said something like "Maynard is like King Midas: everything he touches turns to gold." Well, think about it a bit, and tell me if it is not the truth: Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer.
Suspended between rock, ambient, electronic, trip hop and alt rock, "Money Shot" (in porn slang, a scene that involves the ejaculation of one of the male actors) put together a long series of beautiful songs, songs that create a vaguely gloomy mood, but which it is of undeniable beauty. "Agostina" is obviously dedicated to the daughter of Maynard and his girlfriend (or wife, it is not known if the ceremony has taken place), the laboratory manager of the winery Caduceus Cellars, of Maynard properties, Lei Li; "Simultaneous" is a preposterous anti-war narrative, "The Arsonist" and "The Remedy" are two precious jewels, and so on.
