Avevamo parlato della band svedese giusto poche settimane fa; approfitto dell'occasione per porgervi le mie scuse. Nella recensione di The Pursuit of Vikings, avevo detto erroneamente che non li avevo mai ascoltato fino ad allora. Probabilmente avevo fretta, perché una semplice ricerca sul blog, mi avrebbe ricordato che ne avevo scritto nel 2011, parlandovi del loro ottavo Surtur Rising. Fatto ammenda, veniamo a Berserker (la parola norrena, anglicizzata, significa appunto, la trance da combattimento), il loro undicesimo disco, che qualche critico ha acclamato come uno dei loro più duri. Come già espresso in passato, il sound degli svedesi è zero originale, ma del tutto particolare: è un po' come ascoltare gli Iron Maiden (uso sempre questo riferimento, molto semplice ma indicativo) con il cantante dei Lamb of God. Il suono è potente, ma stilisticamente è molto classic heavy metal: la loro catalogazione come melodic death metal è dovuta, a mio modesto parere, semplicemente al cantato di Johan Hegg. Detto questo, saprete cosa aspettarvi, e, se vi piace il metal, vinto il primo spaesamento, troverete questo disco prevedibile ma coinvolgente.
We talked about the Swedish band just a few weeks ago; I take this opportunity to offer you my apologies. In the review of The Pursuit of Vikings, I had mistakenly said that I had never listened to them until then. I was probably in a hurry, because a simple blog search would remind me that I wrote about it in 2011, talking about their eighth Surtur Rising. Once I have made amends, we come to Berserker (the Norse word, anglicized, which means precisely, the combat trance), their eleventh record, which some critics have acclaimed as one of their strongest. As already expressed in the past, the sound of the Swedes is zero original, but quite special: it's a bit like listening to Iron Maiden (I always use this reference, very simple but indicative) with the singer of Lamb of God. The sound is powerful, but stylistically it is very classic heavy metal: their cataloging as melodic death metal is due, in my humble opinion, simply to the singing of Johan Hegg. Having said that, you will know what to expect, and, if you like metal, having won the first disorientation, you will find this album predictable but engaging.
