Nell'attesa dell'uscita del loro undicesimo disco in studio, che si intitolerà Berseker e che uscirà esattamente il giorno in cui leggerete questa recensione, visto che non avevo mai ascoltato la band svedese, mi sono procurato la versione musicale di questo imponente video album, che accoppia due performance dal vivo al Summer Breeze Festival del 2017 su due sere diverse. Il mio giudizio non è propriamente positivo: lette le discussioni sull'etichetta per definire il genere praticato dagli Amon Amarth (melodic death metal, viking metal, pagan metal), mi paiono un po' ridicole. Gli AA, seppur ispirati alla mitologia norrena e cantando di questo e di tutto quello che circonda la cultura vichinga, sono autori di un classicissimo heavy metal, molto ispirato a quello degli Iron Maiden, che ogni tanto sfocia nello speed, e con un cantante che usa il cosiddetto cantato harsh, il che genera un'iniziale perplessità nell'ascoltatore che si approccia a loro per la prima volta. Buona la fattura, impressionante l'impegno, ma il risultato è abbastanza prevedibile.
Pending the release of their eleventh studio album, which will be called Berseker and which will be released exactly on the day you read this review, since I had never heard the Swedish band, I got the musical version of this impressive video album, which combines two live performances at the 2017 Summer Breeze Festival on two different evenings. My judgment is not exactly positive: having read the discussions on the label to define the genre practiced by Amon Amarth (melodic death metal, viking metal, pagan metal), they seem to me a bit ridiculous. The AA, although inspired by Norse mythology and singing of this and everything that surrounds Viking culture, are authors of a very classic heavy metal, very inspired by that of Iron Maiden, which occasionally drift into speed metal, and with a singer who uses the so-called harsh singing, which generates an initial perplexity in the listener who approaches them for the first time. Good workmanship, impressive commitment, but the result is quite predictable.
