Questo secondo disco per il monicker WYW (Wear Your Wounds), creatura nata inizialmente come progetto solista di Jacob Bannon dei Converge, qui voce, basso e piano, è decisamente una delle sorprese, e dei dischi più belli di questo 2019. Ve lo dico così, senza timore di essere smentito. Jacob qui canta come un crooner del post rock, e non come l'indemoniato singer dei Converge, e si circonda di musicisti come Christopher Maggio alla batteria (ultimamente con i Mutoid Man in tour, come rimpiazzo di Ben Koller in seguito al suo infortunio, ma già con solide band underground), e, alle chitarre, un po' il pezzo forte di questo disco assolutamente di grandissima atmosfera, Mike McKenzie, Adam McGrath e Sean Martin (leggete qui i loro curriculum), per dare vita ad una raccolta di canzoni, come detto, di grande atmosfera, molto crepuscolari anche nei testi, tracce che raramente spingono sull'acceleratore, ma che si rivelano estremamente emozionanti e coinvolgenti. Presenti anche Ben Chisholm (Chelsea Wolfe) e Gared O'Donnell, per un disco che definire metal sarebbe riduttivo, e a proposito del quale farete fatica a scegliere la vostra canzone preferita.
This second record for monicker WYW (Wear Your Wounds), a creature born initially as a solo project by Jacob Bannon of Converge, here voice, bass and piano, is definitely one of the surprises, and one of the most beautiful records of this 2019. I tell you so, without fear of being denied. Jacob sings here as a post rock crooner, and not as a Converge demon-possessed singer, and surrounds himself with musicians like Christopher Maggio on drums (lately with Mutoid Man on tour, as Ben Koller's replacement following his injury, but already with solid underground bands), and, on guitars, a bit of the highlight of this absolutely great album, Mike McKenzie, Adam McGrath and Sean Martin (read their resumes here), to create a collection of songs, as mentioned, of great atmosphere, very crepuscular even in the lyrics, tracks that rarely push on the accelerator, but that are extremely emotionally and engaging. Also present were Ben Chisholm (Chelsea Wolfe) and Gared O'Donnell, for a record that defining metal would be an understatement, and about which you will struggle to choose your favorite song.
