Giudizio sintetico: si può vedere (3/5)

Vita ed opere di Farrokh Bulsara, in arte Freddie Mercury, dal 1970, anno in cui lavorava come addetto ai bagagli all'aeroporto londinese di Heathrow, attraverso la sua storia con i Queen, fino alla trionfale esibizione al Live Aid del 1985.

Film dalla lavorazione non facile, che però ha avuto un enorme successo al botteghino, ed ha raccolto ben 4 Oscar, incluso quello per il miglior attore protagonista a Rami Malek nei panni di Mercury. La lavorazione travagliata, a mio modesto giudizio, fa si che il film abbia un montaggio che lascia un po' a desiderare, e una direzione che funziona a tratti (la scena del Live Aid, da molti considerata apice del film, a me non è piaciuta per niente). Bene il cast, ovviamente anche Malek, che però, sempre a mio giudizio, è stato insignito dell'Oscar con parecchia benevolenza (per quel poco che ho visto, io lo avrei dato senza dubbio a Morgensen per Green Book). Di certo, ci aiuta a ricordare che i Queen hanno scritto delle canzoni meravigliose (e, verso la fine della loro carriera, anche delle discrete cagate).

A film that was not easy to make, but which has been hugely successful at the box office, and has collected 4 Oscars, including the one for Best Actor for Rami Malek as Mercury. The troubled work, in my humble opinion, you can see it in the editing that is not so good, and a direction that works at times (the Live Aid scene, considered by many to be the film's peak, I didn't like it at all). Good performance from the cast, obviously also Malek, who however, again in my opinion, was awarded the Oscar with a lot of benevolence (for what little I saw, I would have given it without doubt to Morgensen for Green Book). Certainly, it helps us to remember that Queen have written wonderful songs (and, towards the end of their career, even discrete shit).
