No pain. The world is a wonderful whisper for those who can listen, if necessary in silence.

Relatives In Descent - Protomartyr (2017)

Versi come:
It meant a lot to me then, it matters less to me now
And any pleasure derived
Was knowing that they'd never feel as good

As a badge pinned on a thrift store coat that smelled of sauerkraut and cloves
da The Chuckler, ma anche come:
Unhorse for me, dear sir
The marble emperor

Defenestrate the king
da The Tower, con chiaro riferimento a Trump.

Fourth record for the quartet from Detroit, Michigan, a band for which the post-punk label fits perfectly. The atmospheres they create, in several moments will force the listener to ask himself in what year we are. References to Wire, the Fall as well as to the Joy Division, with the baritone voice of Joe Casey, which, believe me, in some passages will remind you of Nick Cave, for a claustrophobic sound and, all in all, predictable. Certainly, the most beautiful side of Protomartyr are the lyrics, still of Casey, which are both poetic and explanatory of the sense of inadequacy that pervades their work. Verses such as:
It meant a lot to me then, it matters less to me now
And any pleasure derived
It was knowing that they would never feel good
As a badge pinned on a thrift store coat that smelled of sauerkraut and cloves
from The Chuckler, but also as:
Unhorse for me, dear sir
The marble emperor
Defenestrate the king
from The Tower, with a clear reference to Trump.
