Londinese purosangue, ma con madre irlandese e padre napoletano, Francesca Belmonte una volta si faceva chiamare Franky Riley. La leggenda vuole che sia stata scelta da Tricky dopo un demo ed un provino, ed ha cominciato a collaborare con lui dal 2008. Questo è il suo disco di debutto, ed è prodotto dallo stesso Adrian Thaws aka Tricky, che ha messo lo zampino pure nella scrittura di buona parte delle tracce (11 su 15, per essere esatti). Curiosamente, due anni dopo lo stesso Tricky ha scelto una delle 4 tracce non da lui co-scritte, per reinterpretarla nel suo Ununiform (quindi Stole non è "sua", come vi avevo scritto erroneamente nella rece - ho corretto): ma questa è un'altra storia. E' piuttosto naturale che il suono e lo stile di Francesca sia pesantemente influenzato dal suo mentore, non credo sia il caso di fargliene una colpa. Il disco è più che apprezzabile, e auguro alla ragazza di spiccare presto il volo verso la totale emancipazione: la voce è deliziosa e ferma, le suggestioni soul/blues sono sottotraccia ma vive, sotto lo strato di trip hop elettronico, che naturalmente fa da filo conduttore del disco. Da tenere d'occhio.

This is her debut album, and is produced by Adrian Thaws aka Tricky himself, who has put his hands as well in writing a lot of the tracks (11 out of 15, to be exact). Curiously, two years later, Tricky chosen one of the four tracks not co-written by him, to reinterpret it in his "Ununiform" (so "Stole" is not "his", as I had wrongly written in its review): but this is another story. It is rather natural that Francesca's sound and style is heavily influenced by his mentor, and I do not think it is a good thing to blame her. The record is more than to be appreciate, and I wish the girl to soon fly to full emancipation: the voice is delicious and firm, the soul / blues suggestions are subtle but alive, under the layer of electronic trip hop, which of course does the album conductor wire. To keep an eye on.
