Quattro anni dopo gli eventi della prima stagione, Robin torna a Sydney, per una nuova opportunità in polizia, e si ritrova ad investigare sulla morte di una giovane donna asiatica, probabilmente una prostituta, il cui corpo è stato chiuso in un trolley e gettato nell'oceano. Scopriremo presto che la ragazza morta era strettamente legata ad una giovane australiana, molto vicina a Robin.
Concordo con molta critica: rimuovere l'azione dal suggestivo sfondo della prima stagione, portandola nell'assolata zona di Bondi Beach a Sydney, non ha giovato alla serie. Nonostante un cast sempre interessante (rimane protagonista Elisabeth Moss, entrano Nicole Kidman e Gwendoline Christie), la seconda stagione di Top of the Lake si rivela confusionaria, mettendo probabilmente troppa carne al fuoco. Seppure le opere di Jane Campion abbiano sempre una fortissima impronta femminista, e rimangano apprezzabili anche stavolta diversi temi che scoperchia, la stagione non è il massimo, e spero che questa mia critica non venga letta in maniera misogina.
I agree with much criticism: removing the action from the striking backdrop of the first season, bringing it to the sunny Bondi Beach area in Sydney, did not bring benefit the series. Despite an always interesting cast (Elisabeth Moss still as main character, plus Nicole Kidman and Gwendoline Christie), the second season of Top of the Lake turns out to be confusing, probably putting too much meat on the grill. Although the works of Jane Campion always have a very strong feminist imprint, and even this time, many themes are remarkable, the season is not the best, and I hope that my criticism will not be read as misogynist.
