Quando ti verrebbe voglia di liquidare la recensione con il classico "non è il mio genere", arriva un pezzo come One Thing Left to Try, che ti ricorda quanto gli MGMT devono alla new wave, anche se in un modo contorto. Little Dark Age, un titolo davvero adatto al momento, è il quarto disco del duo formatosi a Middletown, Connecticut, e mi pare segni un ulteriore cambiamento, e chissà se sarà apprezzato dagli appassionati. Sia chiaro, siamo ancora alle prese con pezzi orecchiabili, spesso apparentemente divertenti, pop e solari, ma qua e là ci sono delle "tendenze" scure. Se l'apertura di She Works Out Too Much sembra un pezzo da classifica uscito direttamente da una Hit Parade degli anni '80, il pezzo seguente, che è quello che poi dà il titolo all'album, ha più di un retrogusto dark, e c'è chi scomoda Gary Numan. Si va avanti così, tra gli Human League e gli A-ha. Presi a piccole dosi, possono anche piacere. Ma rimango dell'opinione che un intero disco di questa roba, seppur catchy quanto volete, sia difficilmente sopportabile, e manchi un poco di carisma.
