Come continuo a dirvi, mi sto mettendo alla prova sempre di più. Al quarto tentativo, riuscirò a scrivere su un disco di Claire Elise Boucher aka Grimes (nessuna relazione col Rick di The Walking Dead), artista canadese 27enne di Vancouver, appunto al quarto disco.
Come mi capita a volte, non ero riuscito ad "entrare" nei suoi dischi fin'ora, soprattutto al suo precedente Visions, disco del 2012 particolarmente acclamato. Un problema che non nego, ma che a volte mi impedisce di parlarvi di tutto quello che di interessante accade nel mondo musicale. Stavolta, qualche giorno di ferie, quindi qualche momento di relativa tranquillità, mi ha permesso di accedere nel mondo di Grimes, e di apprezzare questo suo Art Angels.
Potrei fare un clamoroso autogol dicendovi quello che vi sto per dire, ma da tempo sono un un mood da full transparency, quindi lo dirò: sono riuscito ad apprezzare molto di più Art Angels rispetto a Visions perché questo nuovo disco è leggermente più accessibile. Grimes è una giovanissima artista dance/electronic/pop molto dotata anche come produttrice; ha belle idee anche molto sperimentali, ingloba influenze che vanno dagli ABBA a Bjork, e stavolta ha deciso di provare a fondere lo sperimentalismo più spinto con un certo grado di accessibilità. Il risultato è uno strambo, ma sorprendentemente accogliente disco di pop ballabile, con influenze elettroniche fortissime, anche estreme, ma irresistibile in diversi momenti.
Pezzi come Flesh Without Blood, Belly of the Beat, Kill V. Maim, Artangels, Pin, REALiTi sono piccoli capolavori, e devo ammetterlo pure io, seppur mai avrei pensato di innamorarmi di un suono così elettronico.

As it happens at times, I was not able to "enter" in his records so far, especially its previous "Visions", particularly acclaimed album of 2012. One problem that I do not deny, but that sometimes prevents me to tell you about all the interesting things are happening in the music world. This time, a few days off, then a moment of relative tranquility, allowed me to enter the world of Grimes, and to appreciate her "Art Angels".
I could make a dramatic own goal by telling you what I'm about to say, but I am actually in a mood of a full transparency, then I'll say: I was able to appreciate much more than "Visions" this new "Art Angels", because this new album is a little more accessible. Grimes is a young artist dance / electronic / pop also very gifted as a producer; she has good ideas also very experimental, incorporating influences ranging from ABBA to Bjork, and this time decided to try to merge the experimentalism more stringent with a certain degree of accessibility. The result is a quirky, yet surprisingly cozy disk danceable pop with electronic influences very strong, even extreme, but at several times, irresistible.
Tracks like "Flesh Without Blood", "Belly of the Beat","Kill V. Maim", "Artangels", "Pin", "REALiTi", are small masterpieces, and I must admit that, although I never thought of falling in love with a sound so electronic.
