Ed eccolo, finalmente, il quarto lavoro della nuova incarnazione del signor Rock and Roll Nicke Andersson. Non c'è, come al solito, niente di troppo nuovo, in questo Honk Machine, se non uno scatto ancor più verso il passato. La musica degli ISE si muove quindi verso un rock'n'roll primordiale, spolverato da un songwriting che spesso si fa fatica a non definire beatlesiano, come nel caso di All Over My Head, Walk On By e Maybe You're Right, curiosamente raggruppate insieme al centro del disco (ma pure in Colder Down Here). Si odono ancora echi di selvaggio garage rock della miglior fattura, all'inizio di It Ain't What You Think (It's What You Do), Lost in Losing You, Let Me Throw My Life Away, Guard Down, ed il tutto ha il sapore di una cosa bellissima di molti anni fa.
Insomma, come sempre, difficile spiegare cosa mi lega alle creature di Nicke, ma quando ascolti un pezzo come Anywhere Loud, in ogni suo piccolo passaggio, che sia l'intro, la strofa, il bridge, il ritornello o l'assolo di chitarra, capisci quello che dovrebbe fare ogni musicista degno di tal nome.

And here it is, finally, the fourth work of the new incarnation of Mr. Rock and Roll Nicke Andersson. There is, as usual, nothing too new in this "Honk Machine", if not a step even more toward the past. The music of Imperial State Electric then moves towards a primal rock'n'roll, dusted from a songwriting that often it is hard not to define Beatlesque, as in the case of "All Over My Head", "Walk On By" and "Maybe You're Right", curiously grouped together in the center of the album (but also in "Colder Down Here"). You still hear echoes of wild garage rock of the best bill, in the intro of "It Is not What You Think (It's What You Do)", in "Lost in Losing You", "Let Me Throw My Life Away", "Down Guard", and everything has tastes like a beautiful thing from many years ago.
