Festeggiamo il cosiddetto Lunedì dell'Angelo con una band che al terzo disco ha già disegnato un percorso importante. Il quartetto di Little Rock, Arkansas, che debuttò nel 2012 con Sorrow and Extinction, e che nel 2014 ci regalarono l'ottimo Foundations of Burden, arriva al terzo lavoro, questo Heartless, rispettando gli stessi dogmi con i quali è uscito dall'anonimato, un doom metal melodico che, rispetto agli altri frequentatori del genere, ha come valore aggiunto un tono epico e celebrativo superiore, un songwriting che lascia il segno. Musica, al solito, dal passo deciso e incessante, dai riff granitici; sezione ritmica impeccabile, con il solito basso di Rowland che si prende delle libertà, ottimi assoli, e un Brett Campbell che, oltre alla chitarra, si diletta egregiamente nel cantato, facendo sentire un deciso impegno verso il miglioramento.
Ottimo disco per gli amanti del genere, che potrebbe incontrare pareri favorevoli anche da chi non se la sente di rimanere rinchiuso dentro agli steccati dei generi.
