Nell'attesa dell'uscita del nuovo disco di Myrkur, una one-woman band formata dalla modella, attrice e musicista (anche pop) danese Amalie Bruun, disco che quando leggerete questa rece sarà già uscito (sto scrivendo queste righe il 10 settembre, il disco nuovo dal titolo Mareridt uscirà il 15), parliamo del debutto sulla lunga distanza, M, uscito nel 2015. Il progetto è quantomeno curioso, e ho conosciuto Myrkur solo qualche settimana fa casualmente. Si parte dal black metal, e la signorina si disimpegna in maniera impeccabile e paradossale alla voce, usando toni leggiadri nelle parti pulite, mentre ringhia come un'ossessa sulle parti urlate, ma l'atmosfera è super gotica ed estremamente decadente, con aperture sinfoniche che sfociano nel blast beat, archi e fiati, e poi si arriva fino al folk scandinavo, con parti epiche che a volte fanno pure sorridere, ma che danno un tocco medievale a molte canzoni.
Il disco è stato prodotto da Kristoffer Rygg degli Ulver. Oltre alla Bruun che canta, suona la chitarra e il piano, troviamo Teloch (Mayhem, Nidingr) alle chitarre e al basso, Øyvind Myrvoll (Nidingr, Dodheimsgard) alla batteria, Håvard Jørgensen (Satyricon, Ulver) alla chitarra acustica, Ole-Henrik Moe agli archi (tra i quali alcuni strumenti tradizionali islandesi e scandinavi), Tone Reichelt al corno, Martin Taxt alla tuba, oltre ad una partecipazione di Chris Amott (Arch Enemy, Armageddon, Dark Tranquillity) alla chitarra su Mordet. I pezzi sono tutti in danese, e sono composti dalla Bruun, ad esclusione di Byssan lull, che è una ninna nanna svedese. Un progetto sicuramente fuori dagli schemi.
While waiting for the release of the new album from Myrkur, a one-woman band formed by the Danish model, actress and musician (also pop) Amalie Bruun, which when you read this review, will already be released (I'm writing these lines on September 10, the new album entitled Mareridt will be released on September 15), I want to talk you about long distance debut, "M", released in 2015. The project is at least curious, and I only knew Myrkur a few weeks ago, casually. It starts with the black metal, and the lady disembarks in a flawless and paradoxical manner the voice, using fairy tones in clean parts as she growls like an obsessed on the screamed parts, but the atmosphere is super gothic and extremely decadent with symphony openings which lead to blast beat, strings and aerophones, and then comes to the Scandinavian folk, with epic parts that sometimes are even funny, but give a medieval touch to many songs.
The album was produced by Kristoffer Rygg from Ulver. In addition to the Bruun singing, she plays the guitar and the piano, then we find Teloch (Mayhem, Nidingr) on guitars and bass, Øyvind Myrvoll (Nidingr, Dodheimsgard) on drums, Håvard Jørgensen (Satyricon, Ulver) on acoustic guitar, Ole-Henrik Moe at the strings (including some traditional Icelandic and Scandinavian instruments), Tone Reichelt at the horn, Martin Taxt at the tube, as well as Chris Amott (Arch Enemy, Armageddon, Dark Tranquility) on guitar on "Mordet". The tracks are all in Danish, and are written by Bruun, excluding "Byssan lull", which is a Swedish lullaby. A project definitely out of the schemes.
