Quindicesimo disco per la rossa Myra Ellen Amos, disco ispirato dalla ricerca delle sue radici, da questioni familiari, che poi ha preso una piega diversa, almeno nei testi, al momento dell'elezione di Trump. La Amos, oggi 54enne (mi ha fatto sorridere una sua dichiarazione nel corso di un'intervista: "La menopausa è stata l'insegnante più dura che ho incontrato; più dura del successo"), artista che sa come scrivere canzoni, e che ha sperimentato molti tipi di ispirazione, per arrivare fino ad oggi con qualcosa da dire, ci prova ancora, disseminando il disco di innesti relativamente nuovi per lei, o quantomeno per dare nuova linfa alla sua musica. Il disco non è un brutto disco, ma manca di quell'intensità alla quale, come i veri grandi, lei ci ha abituato. Nonostante bei pezzi quali Breakaway, Reindeer King, come purtroppo solo alcuni dei critici più importanti hanno avuto il coraggio di scrivere, Native Invader è un disco che parte con le migliori intenzioni, ma è in gran parte un disco dimenticabile. Siccome l'impegno sembra esserci, e Tori Amos non mi sembra di quegli artisti che si limitano al compitino per portare a casa la pagnotta, lungi da me lo scrivere dichiarazioni tombali: aspettiamo con calma il prossimo lavoro.
Fifteen album for the ginger-head Myra Ellen Amos, a disc inspired by the search for its roots, from family issues, which then took a different turn, at least in the lyrics, after Trump's election. Amos, today aged 54 (made me smile at her statement during an interview: "Menopause is the hardest teacher I've met. Harder than fame"), an artist who knows how to write songs, and that has experienced many types of inspiration, to date, in order to arrive with always something to say. She still trying to, also with this new album, disseminating the disc of relatively new grafts for her, or at least to give new lymph to her music. The record is not a bad record, but it lacks the intensity that, like the big ones, she let us used to. Despite such good tracks as "Breakaway", "Reindeer King", unfortunately only some of the most important critics have had the courage to write, "Native Invader" is a record that starts with the best intentions but is largely a forgettable work. Since the commitment seems to be there, and Tori Amos does not seem to me to those artists who are just compelled to take home the loaf, I'm far from writing tomb declarations: I'm looking forward to the next work.
