Devo dire che il metalcore, o nu metal che dir si voglia, quel genere che nasce con i Korn e prende poi direzioni varie con Deftones, Papa Roach, P.O.D., Slipknot, è uno di quelli che ascolto con più facilità, un po' come gli altri ascoltano il pop. Gli Of Mice and Men, qui al loro quinto disco (dopo il, pare, definitivo abbandono del cantante Austin Carlile), che fino ad oggi non avevo mai ascoltato, mi pare lo interpretino dignitosamente, componendo canzoni robuste e totalmente orecchiabili, ricordando (appunto) i migliori Papa Roach e lasciandosi andare a una cover di Money dei Pink Floyd che non è malaccio (ma che forse si potevano anche risparmiare), e regalando un disco che sicuramente non sarà nelle top ten di fine 2018, ma che può accompagnare momenti di gioia musicale. Quantomeno in studio, il bassista Aaron Pauley, fino al disco precedente in carica delle clean vocals, e qui pure delle scream, mi pare se la cavi discretamente.
I have to say that the metalcore, or nu metal, if you prefer, that genre that start with Korn and then takes different directions with Deftones, Papa Roach, P.O.D., Slipknot, is one of those I listen with more ease, a bit like the others listen to pop. The Of Mice and Men, here on their fifth album (after the apparently definitive abandonment of the singer Austin Carlile), which until today I had never heard, I think they interpret it with dignity, composing robust and totally catchy songs, remembering (in fact) the best Papa Roach and letting go to a cover of Money by Pink Floyd that is not so bad (but maybe they could also avoid it), and giving us a disc that certainly will not be in the top ten at the end of 2018, but that can accompany moments of musical joy. At least in the studio, bassist Aaron Pauley, up to the previous album in charge of the clean vocals, and here also of the screamy one, I think he is managing not so bad.
