Nonostante li avessi "abbandonati" da tempo, i Judas Priest hanno continuato imperterriti a far uscire dischi, perfino quando furono lasciati (dal 1991 al 2003) da Bob Halford (sostituito da Tim Ripper Owens, vicenda che ha perfino ispirato un film, Rock Star). Ultimamente mi ha preso la nostalgia, ho riascoltato dei vecchi live, e ho scoperto che un nuovo disco era in uscita: il diciottesimo! Beh, amici, credeteci oppure no, questa band composta da un nucleo storico (Halford, Tipton, Hill) di settantenni (più o meno: 66, 70, 67, rispettivamente), un 56enne (Scott Travis, batteria) e un "ragazzino" 38enne (Richie Faulkner, che ha sostituito K. K. Downing nel 2011), sa ancora perfettamente come comporre e imbastire un eccellente disco heavy metal. Più lo ascolto e più rimango sbalordito: non c'è un pezzo fuori posto, non ce n'è uno debole, nessun riempitivo. Provatelo.
Nota triste: poco prima dell'uscita del disco, è stato annunciato che a Glenn Tipton è stato diagnosticato il Parkinson (già da una decina d'anni), e che quindi rimarrà membro della band, ma non andrà in tour. Sarà sostituito da Andy Sneap, su Firepower produttore, come musicista già nei Sabbat.

Lately it took me homesickness, I listened to old live shows, and I discovered that a new album was coming out: the eighteenth! Well, friends, believe it or not, this band made up of a historical core (Halford, Tipton, Hill) of seventy-years-old guys (more or less: 66, 70, 67, respectively), one 56 year old (Scott Travis, drums) and a "little boy" 38-year-old (Richie Faulkner, who replaced K. K. Downing in 2011), still knows perfectly how to compose and baste an excellent heavy metal disc. The more I listen to it, the more I am stunned: there is not a piece out of place, there is not a weak one, no filler. Try it.
Sad note: just before the release of the album, it was announced that Glenn Tipton was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease (already for about ten years), and that he will therefore remain a member of the band, but will not go on tour. He will be replaced by Andy Sneap, on Firepower producer, as a musician already in Sabbat.

A sorprendermi di questo disco, più che l'età dei priest storici, è lo scarto con le ultimi produzioni. Mettendo a confronto il mappazzone Nostradamus, il peso Redeemer of souls e questo, sembra che a suonare siano due band diverse
...e pensa che io quei due lì manco li ho sentiti....
