Immortal, se non ho capito male leggendo la biografia, è "solo" il secondo disco solista per la 68enne cantante statunitense, nata a San Diego, California, cresciuta in giro per il mondo visto che il padre era un militare di carriera, e stabilitasi poi con la famiglia nei sobborghi di Seattle (la ricorderete, se non per i dischi degli Heart, band dove militava anche la sorella minore Nancy, chitarrista, per le sue partecipazioni all'EP Sap degli Alice in Chains, o nella colonna sonora del celeberrimo Singles - la sorella è stata pure sposata con Cameron Crowe). Vita complicata dai suoi problemi di peso, e da dipendenze varie, questa signora è dotata di una voce da Soprano drammatico, e con questo disco vuole rendere omaggio a grandi voci che lei ha ammirato (anche il suo primo disco solista, Hope & Glory, del 2007, era un disco di cover). Disco curioso, dove potete trovare una cover di I Am the Highway degli Audioslave (la performance non è delle migliori, e questo non fa altro che aumentare i i rimpianti per la perdita di Cornell), una bella rielaborazione di Back to Black della Winehouse, così come degna di nota I'm Afraid of the Americans (Bowie), ed altre curiosità.
