"As the world wakes up to Phoebe Bridgers"—to quote our friend Beach the other day—we’re here trying to gauge the worth of her third solo album. Well, it’s worth a great deal; I can say that with confidence. It may not possess the gentle yet overwhelming impact of its predecessor, *Punisher*, and it certainly demands more attentive listening. Setting aside the lyrics—which remain beautiful and intense—*Lost Weekend* doesn't simply go through the motions; it goes further, as is evident right from the opening track, "The Outside" (which could easily be a Bon Iver outtake). The remaining tracks are all excellent—rich and layered—with Bridgers, aided by an intriguing array of collaborators, attempting to sparingly weave diverse influences into her emo-folk essence. You can judge the result for yourselves if I haven't convinced you enough: yet another fantastic, sophisticated modern folk record.
