Indicativamente il sesto album della musicista, produttrice, compositrice e attrice nativa di Dallas, Texas, come recita piuttosto correttamente la descrizione di Wikipedia, è il frutto de "l'uso da parte di Badu di composizioni melodiche e suggestive unito alle tecniche di campionamento di The Alchemist". Se avete un minimo di dimestichezza con il genere "praticato" dalla Badu, saprete che è definito R&B e/o neo soul; ho letto qualche recensione esaltata ed esaltante, ma ho il sospetto, dopo alcuni ascolti, che chi si è esaltato fosse semplicemente felice del ritorno dell'artista dopo moltissimo tempo dall'ultimo album contenente materiale originale. The record is pleasant, Badu's voice remains divine, and the influences—and thus the nuances—are manifold; the compositions are complex—perhaps even overly so at times—though the album arguably lacks a certain measure of melody and pathos.
