La (prima) cosa bella di questo nuovo disco degli Ulver, è che non sarebbe un disco di inediti. Eppure, segnatevelo perché, sempre per il discorso che faccio spesso, se siete appassionati di musica che, come dire, amano il rischio, vi piace stare sia nella vostra comfort zone ma vi piace anche sperimentare ogni tanto (se vi fa piacere ascoltare i Green Day ma anche i Tool, Bruce Springsteen ma anche i Pink Floyd), questo sarà probabilmente uno dei dischi dell'anno.
I lupi norvegesi spostano ogni volta un poco più avanti il confine. So che suona un po' come una ripetizione, ma questa band pazzesca è passata, in poco più di vent'anni di carriera, dal black metal alla musica sperimentale e ambient, passando attraverso il folk metal, le colonne sonore, la musica da camera, l'elettronica.
E' un disco che raccoglie delle jam live, registrate durante le loro date nel mese di febbraio 2014, ritoccate e migliorate in studio successivamente dal bassista/chitarrista Daniel O'Sullivan.
Tanto per darvi delle coordinate, Moody Stix contiene samples da Doom Sticks (da A Quick Fix of Melancholy), Glammer Hammer reinterpreta Glamour Box (Ostinati) (da Messe I.X-VI.X), Nowhere (Sweet Sixteen), bellissima, è un nuovo arrangiamento di Nowhere/Catastrophe, Ecclesiastes (A Vernal Catnap) reinterpreta il finale di Tomorrow Never Knows (entrambe le ultime due contenute in Perdition City), England's Hidden contiene campioni vocali di England (da Wars of the Roses).
E' un viaggio, una roba che fa davvero rimpiangere di non averli mai visti dal vivo, e una spinta fortissima ad osare, a provare cose nuove, esplorare terreni sconosciuti.
Il titolo è la raccolta delle iniziali dei segni dello zodiaco, da Aries (Ariete) a Pisces (Pesci). E chissà che non voglia dirci che è musica per tutti.
The (first) great thing about this new album of Ulver, is that it would not an album of unreleased. Yet, write its name down, always for the thing that I often say, if you are a music fan, let's say, that loves the risk, you enjoy being in both your comfort zone but you also like to experiment every now and then (if you like to listen to Green Day but also Tool, Bruce Springsteen but also Pink Floyd), this will probably be one of the album of the year.
The Norwegian wolves move every time a little further on the border. I know it sounds a bit like a repeat, but this crazy band has gone, in just over twenty years of career, from black metal to experimental music and ambient, passing through folk metal, soundtracks, chamber music, electronics.
It's an album that collects some live jams, recorded during their dates in February 2014, retouched and enhanced in the studio later by bassist/guitarist Daniel O'Sullivan.

It's a trip, one thing that really makes you regret not ever seeing them live, and deeply inspiring to dare, to try new things, explore unknown terrain.
The title is the collection of the initial signs of the zodiac from Aries to Pisces. And perhaps it might want to tell us, that is music to everyone.
