Settimo disco dell'australiana Sia, della quale vi ho parlato nel recente passato (1000 Forms of Fear, il suo disco precedente, ma in realtà di lei ho ascoltato diverse cose in precedenza, a partire, come mi piace ripetere, dal suo pezzo sulla scena finale di Six Feet Under). L'artista, per chi non fosse familiare, è particolarmente prolifica, soprattutto perché prima di scrivere per sé, scrive per molte altre cantanti, e verso la fine del 2014 annunciò addirittura che aveva pronti già due dischi completi; molto materiale contenuto in questo This Is Acting (titolo riferito al fatto, appunto, che cantando canzoni che aveva inizialmente scritto per altri, lo fa un po' per gioco) era infatti destinato ad altri.
Alive era per Adele, Bird Set Free era per la colonna sonora di Pitch Perfect 2, rifiutata per far posto a Flashlight (di Jessie J, ma scritta ancora anche da Sia), poi proposta a Rihanna, che la rifutò; il pezzo poi è stato passato ad Adele, che l'ha registrata ma non l'ha inclusa nel nuovo album. Cheap Thrills è stata rifiutata da Rihanna; anche Reaper, scritta insieme a Kanye West per Rihanna, non le è stata proposta, perché Sia ha deciso di tenerla.
Alla fine, sembra che l'unico pezzo non scritto per altri, sia One Million Bullets.
Come che sia, se non vi dispiace ogni tanto farvi rapire da guilty pleasures di palese orientamento pop dance cantati da (ottime) voci femminili (e, potrebbe sembrare strano, ma Sia di voce ne ha da vendere, sospetto che scrive per altre solo perché ha grossi problemi ad apparire in pubblico - è diventata famosa per non avere grossa attività live, e per presentarsi agli show televisivi con maschere, cappelli, parrucche, cantare spalle al pubblico o addirittura a faccia in giù su un letto), This Is Acting è un altro ottimo disco dell'australiana.
Davvero difficile trovare un pezzo scarso: Bird Set Free, Broken Glass, Cheap Thrills, perfino First Fighting a Sandstorm (una delle varie bonus tracks delle varie edizioni), Footprints, la potentissima Alive, Unstoppable, Move Your Body, insomma, un campionario dal quale scegliere singoli ad occhi chiusi.
Australian Sia seventh disc, (I talked about her in the recent past, 1000 Forms of Fear, his previous album). The artist, for those not familiar, is particularly prolific, especially because before writing for herself, writes for many other female singers, and towards the end of 2014 even announced that she had already prepared two complete albums; much material on this "This Is Acting" (the title refers to the fact, precisely, that singing songs that she had originally written for others, she does "acting") was in fact destined to others.
In the end, it seems that the only song not written for others, is "One Million Bullets".
As it is, if you do not mind occasionally let you kidnap from some blatant pop guilty pleasures, sung by (excellent) female voices (and, it might seem strange, but Sia has voice to sell, I suspect she writes for others just because has big problems to appear in public - has become famous for not having big live activities, and to introduce themselves to the televisions [not] showing herself with masks, hats, wigs, singing back to the audience or even face-down on a bed), "This is Acting" is another very good album.
Really hard to find a bad song: "Bird Set Free", "Broken Glass", "Cheap Thrills", even "First Fighting in Sandstorm" (one of several bonus tracks of the various editions), "Footprints", the powerful "Alive", "Unstoppable", "Move Your Body", in short, an album from whom to choose a single with eyes closed.
