Come mi succede ormai sempre più spesso, qualche tempo fa mi sono tornati in mente i mancuniani Amplifier, e sono andato a controllare se avessero fatto uscire qualcosa negli ultimi tre anni, dopo il già recensito Echo Street. Ebbene si, giusto un anno dopo, 2014, usciva questo Mystoria, che suona come se, lo so, l'ho già detto, i Genesis si fossero riformati in questi anni, e amassero da una parte i Tool, dall'altra strizzassero l'occhio alla "vendibilità" di un certo livello, ma non troppo. Si, perché c'è sempre questo fatto: gli Amplifier possono suonare duri, rumorosi, pressoché metal, ma probabilmente non vogliono farlo fino in fondo. Oppure, più semplicemente, a loro piace suonare così, una sorta di space rock quasi intellettuale, con smussature nei punti giusti, ma imbastendo pezzi complessi e ricercati anche quando durano "solo" tre minuti. Ascoltare The Meaning Of If, per esempio.
Se posso però esprimere una critica, c'è da dire che nonostante l'indubbia dote di composizione, le tracce suonano un po' troppo simili; potrebbe essere un pro, sottolineando l'omogeneità del lavoro, eppure, l'impressione che mi ha fatto questo disco, anche dopo ripetuti ascolti, è stata quella di una certa piattezza, e di nessun pezzo che si distacca, e che quindi si fa ricordare, in particolare.
As I now happens more and more often, some time ago I was reminded the mancunian Amplifier, and I went to check if they had released out something in the last three years, after the previously reviewed "Echo Street", 2013. And yes, just a year later, in 2014, it came out this "Mystoria", that sounds like it, I know, already said, the Genesis would have been regrouped in the recent years, and they would loved the music of the Tool, and on the other hand they squeezed an eye to the "marketability" of a certain level, but not too much. Yes, because there is always this: the Amplifier may sound harsh, noisy, almost metal, but probably they do not want to do it to the end. Or, more simply, they like to play exactly like this, a kind of "space rock" almost intellectual, with bevels in the right places, but building complex and sought tracks even when they last "only" three minutes. Listen "The Meaning Of If", for example.
If I can, however, express a criticism, it must be said that despite the undoubted talent of composition, the tracks sound a bit too similar; It could be a pros, emphasizing the homogeneity of the work, and yet, the impression that I had about this record, even after repeated listening, has been to a certain flatness, and no one track that stands out, and then you remember, in particular.
