Reputation - Taylor Swift (2017)

Parliamo seriamente di Taylor Alison Swift da Reading, Pennsylvania. Come saprà chi segue questo blog, uno dei miei guilty pleasures musicali, nato indubbiamente dall'ammirazione per questa bellissima e giovane creatura, ma cementato dal talento da lei dimostrato in quanto compositrice e performer. Abbandonato definitivamente, già col precedente 1989 (album, come ricordato, completamente coverizzato da Ryan Adams in seguito), l'iniziale country pop, curiosamente adesso Swifty si cimenta in un electropop che spesso flirta con l'R'n'B. Dico curiosamente perché una delle faide verbali più famose degli ultimi anni, in ambito pop-musicale-famoso, è stata quella sua con Kanye West. Non è tutto: so che chi perderà il suo tempo leggendo queste righe, e conoscendo la musica, storcerà la bocca, ma se ascoltate Dress, potreste pensare che la signorina abbia ascoltato anche Grimes, o addirittura FKA twigs, visto che ogni tanto gioca pure col dubstep.
Insomma: venderà tantissimo, perché ormai è una celebrità planetaria, e ha orde di fan (date un'occhiata al video di Bad Blood ft Kendrick Lamar, si fa fatica a contare le celebrità), ma a livello musicale il disco non è portentoso. Sa scrivere canzoni, e si fa aiutare da gente che ne sa, si capisce che il potenziale c'è ancora, ma ha scritto cose migliori. D'altro canto, però, si fa apprezzare il tentativo di cambiare, inglobare, evolversi. Sono sicuro che non si fermerà qui.

As you know, if you follow this blog, one of my musical guilty pleasures, undoubtedly born from admiration for this beautiful and young creature, but cemented by the talent she demonstrated as a composer and performer. Abandoned definitely, already with the previous "1989" (album, as mentioned, completely rereaded by Ryan Adams some years ago), the initial country pop, curiously now "Swifty" engages in an electropop that often flirts with the R'n'B. I say curiously because one of the most famous verbal feuds of the last few years, in pop-music-famous, was hers with Kanye West. That's not all: I know that those who lose their time reading these lines, and knowing the music, will turn up their mouths, but if you listen to "Dress", you might think that Miss Swift has also listened to Grimes, or even FKA twigs, since sometimes she also play with dubstep.
In short: the record will sell a lot, because now it is a planetary celebrity, and has hordes of fans (take a look at the video of "Bad Blood" ft. Kendrick Lamar, it is hard to count the celebrities), but at the musical level the album is not portentous. She knows how to write songs, and she gets help from people who know about it, we understand that the potential is still there, but she has written better things. On the other hand, however, we appreciate the attempt to change, incorporate and evolve. I'm sure she will not stop here.
