Pur con tutta l'ammirazione che provo per Charlotte Gainsbourg, donna non bellissima ma super affascinante e bravissima attrice, sono costretto ad ammettere ogni volta che esce un suo disco, che la sua passione per la musica è decisamente superflua. Naturalmente, non è che i suoi dischi siano inascoltabili, la sua notorietà, il suo background, le sue amicizie, le permettono di circondarsi ogni volta da musicisti, compositori, produttori, di tutto rispetto: su questo disco c'è un pezzo scritto nientemeno che da Paul McCartney (Songbird in a Cage). Rispettabile il fatto che l'intero disco sia una riflessione sulle morti del padre e della sorellastra Kate Barry, con particolare attenzione alla dipendenza dall'alcool, ma il risultato strettamente musicale è ripetitivo, scontato, e addirittura, a volte imbarazzante.
Despite all the admiration I feel for Charlotte Gainsbourg, a woman who is not beautiful but super charming, and a very talented actress, I have to admit every time one of her record comes out, that her passion for music is definitely superfluous. Of course, it is not that her records are unlistenable, her fame, her background, her friendships, allow her to surround herself each time with musicians, composers, producers, highly respectable: on this record there is a track written by nothing less than Paul McCartney (Songbird in a Cage). Respectable is the fact that the entire record is a reflection on the deaths of the father and the half-sister Kate Barry, with particular attention to alcohol addiction, but the strictly musical result is repetitive, obvious, and sometimes even embarrassing.
