No pain. The world is a wonderful whisper for those who can listen, if necessary in silence.

Nebbia piovosa

Rainier Fog - Alice In Chains (2018)

Volevo dirvelo.

Before starting to write this judgment, I went to reread my previous judgments, on the two albums that Alice in Chains released after the death of their singer Layne Staley, which happened in 2002. While, on the other hand, I was listening for the umpteenth time, once again this new record, I thought of a knowledge made a few years ago, with a guy from Seattle on vacation in Europe, a guy who had known Staley personally, and who confirmed that he could not be saved. Every time I think about this band, many episodes come back to me. At the end of all this, having criticized the previous records, I can no longer criticize the continuous work, incessant, full of passion and good things, made by the great, we can say without fear of being denied, Jerry Cantrell, a survived, but also a great musician, and by his cronies, Mike Inez on bass, who took the place of Mike Starr (died in 2011) in 1993, Sean Kinney on drums, along with Cantrell sole surviving founder member (and also with big drug problems in the past, now, it seems, definitely solved), and William DuVall, voice and guitar. I can not do it anymore because this record, although regretting the most dramatic and "rainy" style of the original band, is really a good record, full of references to their past style, but also full of good songs, finally songs that catch you, songs that remain in the head. It's nice to know that a band formed 30 years ago, and that has passed through so many things, is still able to walk on its own legs, and it is curious to see that three out of four members are my peers. I wanted to tell you.
