Arbiter è il quinto disco della band di Charlotte, North Carolina, ma la storia della band stessa viene da parecchio lontano. Formatisi nel 1998, si sciolsero nel 2008 dopo quattro dischi, si riformarono nel 2011 per due concerti, e si sono riformati ancora nel 2016, per far uscire, a distanza quindi di 11 anni dal disco precedente, questo nuovo disco.
Che, devo dire, è davvero molto bello. Sa molto dei migliori Deftones; la band viene dal periodo susseguente al cosiddetto grunge, e pesca da tre diverse influenze forti: l'emo, l'alternative rock, e l'hardcore punk. Il suono è aggressivo, quasi sempre basato su ritmi mid-tempo, ma con molti stop and go della batteria e andamenti sincopati, e la ricerca della melodia è onnipresente, strofa, ponte o ritornello che sia. Come detto, davvero molto bello.
Arbiter is the fifth album of the band from Charlotte, North Carolina, but the band's history comes from far away. Formed in 1998, they disbanded in 2008 after four records, were reunited in 2011 for two concerts, and have been reunited again in 2016, to release, at a distance then 11 years from the previous record, this new album.
Which, I must say, is really very beautiful. It smells a lot about the best Deftones; the band comes from the period following the so-called grunge, and fishing from three different strong influences: emo, alternative rock, and hardcore punk. The sound is aggressive, almost always based on mid-tempo rhythms, but with many drum stops and go, and syncopated lines, and the search for the melody is omnipresent, verse, bridge or refrain. As said, really very nice.
