Il duo Greg Anderson e Stephen O'Malley, coadiuvati da Hildur Guðnadóttir alla voce, violoncello elettrico e haldorophone, Tim Midyett al basso e ai crotali, Tos Nieuwenhuizen al moog, e da Anthony Pateras all'organo a canne, prosegue per la sua strada della sperimentazione, definita correttamente (a mio parere) drone metal. Il disco in questione è stato registrato insieme ad un altro, che uscirà più avanti quest'anno, e che si intitolerà Pyroclasts. Come suggerisce Grayson Haver Currin su Pitchfork, "a seconda di cosa ti serve, Life Metal è, al massimo volume, uno scudo o un mantello, un esercizio a tempo di ritirata dal mondo esterno, o un momento di vuoto senza sbattere le ciglia".
