Stavo pensando giusto poco fa, che quando un disco è molto bello, a volte, così come quando è molto brutto, non è che manchino le parole per spiegarlo, è solo che senti che non servono, per descriverlo. O meglio, per quanto ti sforzi, non riuscirai mai, quindi limiti, appunto, le parole e gli aggettivi. Gold & Grey è il quinto disco per la band di Savannah, Georgia, una band che ha conservato, della formazione originale, solo il chitarrista, cantante e disegnatore delle copertine John Dyer Baizley, band che prosegue intitolando gli album con vari colori, e, semplicemente, dimostra la maturità compositiva raggiunta. Un disco superbo, con una serie quasi interminabile di tracce bellissime, di quelle che quando raggiungono il climax ti fanno venire voglia di strapparti la pelle di dosso, I'm Already Gone, Tourniquet, Throw Me an Anchor, I'd Do Anything, Cold-Blooded Angels, Broken Halo, e tutta una serie di brevi interludi che introducono i testi del pezzo che segue. Un genere che ormai diventa riduttivo definire metal-qualcosa, e che, come ho già detto in altre occasioni, meriterebbe decisamente un pubblico più ampio. Sicuramente uno dei dischi migliori del 2019, senza troppe discussioni.
I was thinking just now, that when a record is very nice, sometimes, as well as when it's very bad, it's not that words are missing to explain it, it's just that you feel that you don't need them, to describe it. Or rather, no matter how hard you try, you will never succeed, therefore you limit, in fact, words and adjectives. Gold & Grey is the fifth record for the band from Savannah, Georgia, a band that has left, of the original line-up, only the guitarist, singer and cover designer John Dyer Baizley, a band that continues by naming the albums with various colors, and, simply, it demonstrates the achieved compositional maturity. A superb record, with an almost endless series of beautiful tracks, those that when they reach the climax make you want to tear your skin off, I'm Already Gone, Tourniquet, Throw Me an Anchor, I'd Do Anything, Cold-Blooded Angels, Broken Halo, and a whole series of short interludes that introduce the lyrics of the following track. A genre that by now becomes simplistic to define metal-something, and which, as I have already said on other occasions, definitely deserves a wider audience. Definitely one of the best records of 2019, without any further discussion.
