Devo essere onesto: ho scelto di vederla dal vivo più per la sua attitudine, che oserei definire punk nel senso più largo del termine, visto che si e no avrò ascoltato due pezzi suoi, fino al momento dell'ingresso al circolo Ohibò in Milano, curioso locale posto nello scantinato ampio di un fabbricato che ospita pure un bar e un ostello. La prima sorpresa è l'opener, Salami Rose Joe Louis, all'anagrafe Lindsay Olsen, poli strumentista californiana, piuttosto giovane, che con tastiere e synth, ma soprattutto una voce "sottile", molto tendente alle note alte, che ricorda un po' grandi interpreti del passato, ci introduce in un'atmosfera decisamente asimmetrica, canzoni sghembe ma davvero interessanti. Timida, sembra veramente molto felice di essere qui. Da tenere d'occhio.
Alice Phoebe Lou invece, di timido non ha niente. Non è sbruffona, anzi, è molto leggiadra, ma si capisce subito che è una persona empatica ed estroversa. Sul palco è come se fosse a casa sua: ringrazia, spiega che questo è un pezzo nuovo e quindi lo eseguirà un po' scarno, invece questo pezzo è per il tizio o la tizia, e via così. Disinvolta, ma pure bravissima. Delicata ma ferma. Una manciata di pezzi con la band, poi un'altra manciata da sola, si accompagna con chitarra e/o tastiere. Gran bella voce, e doti compositive davvero eccezionali, e, come detto, una capacità comunicativa estremamente spiccata. Non faccio fatica a capire perché ci tenga così tanto a mantenere l'indipendenza e il totale controllo sulla sua musica e sui concerti, limitandosi ad un pubblico di nicchia, ma che può "abbracciare" ogni sera. Da notare che, quando ha saputo che la data era già andata esaurita, ha suonato nel pomeriggio un set acustico nella hall dell'ostello "incorporato" al locale.
Alice Phoebe Lou, however, has nothing shy. She is not braggart, on the contrary, she is very graceful, but one immediately understands that she is an empathetic and extroverted person. On stage she is as if she were at home: she thanks, she explains that this is a new track and therefore she will perform it a little lean, instead this track is for that person, and so on. Easy, but also very good. Delicate but firm. A handful of tracks with the band, then another handful on her own, she accompany herself by guitar and / or keyboards. Great beautiful voice, and truly exceptional compositional skills, and, as mentioned, an extremely strong communicative ability. I can understand why she wants so much to maintain independence and total control over her music and concerts, limiting herself to a niche audience, which she can "embrace" every evening. Note that when she learned that the date was already sold out, she played an acoustic set in the afternoon in the hall of the hostel embedded to the venue.
