Ascoltatelo.
Needless to say, this is the ninth studio album from the Chicago, Illinois band—for those who don't know yet (I hereby excommunicate you!): a power trio without a vocalist that persists in making purely instrumental music. They champion a post-rock/metal sound heavily inspired by Isis and Neurosis, yet over the years, they have managed to forge a distinct musical identity of their own. I’ll keep this brief, as there’s no point beating around the bush: this record is truly great. It possesses a raw beauty—not in terms of technical skill, mind you; the three of them are genuinely superb musicians—that is monolithic, commanding, and at times overwhelming. While it’s true that the best tracks are likely found in the first half, the impact is incredible. Give it a listen.
