Il nono disco degli scozzesi è una colonna sonora, quella del documentario Atomic: Living in Dread and Promise, di Mark Cousins. Evidentemente, ci stanno prendendo gusto: esce a due anni dal precedente Rave Tapes, ma il disco precedente, del 2013, se vi ricordate, era un'altra colonna sonora. Quella di Les Revenants.
Seppure mi piacessero i Mogwai di Come On Die Young o di Happy Songs for Happy People, debbo dire che quella della musica da documentari o da film (o da serie tv), credo sia la naturale evoluzione del combo scozzese: la band non ha mai amato le liriche, quanto invece la creazione di mood e di emozioni, dovute esclusivamente all'ambiente sonoro che sono capaci di allestire. Quindi, mi trovo molto a mio agio, ascoltando anche questo Atomic, ed apprezzo la bellezza di pezzi avvolgenti come Bitterness Centrifuge o l'elettronica al servizio estetico della musica come in U-235. Innegabile che un pezzo quale Tzar sia un tipico e inconfondibile pezzo Mogwai. Decisamente, una "deriva" sonora appropriata.
The ninth album of the scottish band is a soundtrack, the one of the documentary Atomic: Living in Dread and Promise, of the Belfast born director, Mark Cousins. Evidently, they are enjoying the game: not the previous, Rave Tapes, but the one before was another soundtrack, Les Revenants, of the omonymous french tv series.
Although I liked the Mogwai of "Come On Die Young" or "Happy Songs for Happy People", I must say that doing music for documentaries or films (or TV series), is the natural evolution of the Scottish combo, which has never loved the lyrics as, at the contrary, the creation of moods and emotions due only to the sound environment that are capable of setting up. So, I am very comfortable, listening to this "Atomic", and I really appreciate the beauty of enveloping tracks like "Bitterness Centrifuge", "Pripyat", or the electronic at service to the musical aesthetic, as in "U-235". Undeniable that a track as "Tzar", is a typical and unmistakable Mogwai songs. Definitely, this "drift" sounds appropriate.
