Ed eccoci al quinto lavoro per gli Alter Bridge, un disco scritto mentre le due menti pensanti, Kennedy (voce, chitarra) e Tremonti (chitarra solista), erano in tour ognuno per contro proprio (Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators e Tremonti). Un disco il cui tema, già dal titolo, è quello di "essere un eroe in una società dove le persone sono state disilluse dai loro leader". Detto questo (c'è chi ha elogiato le liriche, ma non prendiamoci in giro, le liriche, che suppongo vengano dai due già citati, spesso somigliano alle mie poesie, e io non sono certo un gran poeta), veniamo alla musica: onestamente, non c'è davvero niente da aggiungere a quello che abbiamo già detto più volte sugli AB, esempio, in occasione della recensione del precedente Fortress.
Tremonti ci illude con l'iniziale Show Me a Leader (intro con un lungo solo, e solo centrale davvero coinvolgente) di essersi finalmente deciso a "liberare" il suo ego solista, per poi rientrare nei ranghi e mettersi al servizio della band e delle canzoni, Kennedy non ha davvero più nulla da dimostrarci, e come al solito esegue il suo compito in maniera composta ma sopraffina, senza stuccare, i due comprimari (Marshall e Phillips) rimangono al loro posto diligentemente. I pezzi ci sono, pure troppi, ogni tanto si ha un sussulto (My Champion, di gran lunga la migliore, Losing Patience, You Will Be Remembered, sulla falsariga di In Loving Memory), la media rimane alta ma niente che faccia gridare al capolavoro.
Siamo sempre davanti allo stesso dilemma: abbiamo una band dalle grandi potenzialità, che continua a sfornare dischi piacevoli, ma mai capolavori.

Tremonti deceive us with the initial "Show Me Leader" (intro with a long solo, and an immersive central solo) that he finally decided to "liberate" his solo ego, only to fall into line and get back to the band's service and songs', Kennedy did not have really nothing more to prove, and as usual, performs its task in a composed but superfine, without overacting, the two supporting actors (Marshall and Phillips) remain in place carefully. The tracks are there, maybe too many, sometimes they give us a gasp ("My Champion", by far the best, "Losing Patience", "You Will Be Remembered", along the lines of "In Loving Memory"), the average remains high, but nothing that makes cry to the masterpiece.
We are always dealing with the same dilemma: we have a band with great potential, which continues to churn out nice albums, but never masterpieces.
