La complessità della musica dei Neurosis sta si nelle strutture dei loro lunghi pezzi, ma pure tra le righe, là dove si intuiscono tutte le loro influenze, dal crust punk all'ambient, dal metal al tribalismo, dallo sludge al progressive. La loro capacità di generare strutture esageratamente avvolgenti, pur avvalendosi di dissonanze e con un cantato quasi costantemente urlato, è unica, e continua a testimoniare che questa band è decisamente all'avanguardia, rispetto al gruppo.
Se vi piace la ruvidezza e la complessità, non rimarrete delusi da questo Fires Within Fires.
Eleventh album for the band from Oakland, California, 29 years after their debut, and 31 since their formation. In a previous review, I had defined their records "monoliths": true, but only partly.
The complexity of the music of Neurosis is in their long structures of their tracks, but also between the lines, where you can perceive all their influences from crust punk to ambient, from metal to tribalism, from sludge to progressive. Their ability to generate exaggerated enveloping structures, while making use of dissonances and with a sang almost constantly yelled, is unique, and continues to testify that this band is definitely cutting edge, compared to the "rest of the group".
If you like the roughness and complexity, you will not be disappointed by this "Fires Within Fires".
