Ash - Ibeyi (2017)
Second album, after two years and a half away from the debut with their same name, for the Franco-Cuban duo (with Nigerian and Venezuelan origins) composed by female twins Lisa-Kaindé Diaz and Naomi Diaz. Pitchfork write that they reminds, amongst others, Solange Knowles, to me, instead, they let come into my mind the Zap Mama, but the Diaz twins are a beautiful musical journey through world music and girl power (in "No Man Is Big Enough for My Arms", one of the two spoken-word of the album, uses a speech by Michelle Obama). Beautiful, thinking, very gifted, thinking that they have "only" 22 years almost put fears in you. Heterogeneous but interesting contributions (Kamasi Washington, Meshell Ndegeocello, Mala Rodriguez, Chilli Gonzales), an intense and refined record, stunningly confirms that two stars are born and are shining.
