E così, a sorpresa, ecco il nono disco dei mitici Primus. L'album vede l'ennesimo ritorno di Tim Alexander alla batteria (già dal precedente Primus & the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble), e a differenza del disco precedente, contiene materiale originale (cosa che mancava da Green Naugahyde del 2011), anche se pure questo disco è ispirato ad un libro/fiaba. Stiamo parlando di I coboldi degli arcobaleni (The Rainbow Goblins), dell'artista italiano Ul de Rico, che si autodefinisce "pittore, scenografo e traduttore di emozioni".
Les Claypool era uso leggere questa fiaba ai suoi figli, quando erano piccoli, e si è detto da sempre affascinato dall'illuminazione artistica e dall'uso dei colori. Ha così deciso di sottoporlo all'attenzione di Larry LaLonde e Tim Alexander, dopo di che ne è uscito un disco, piuttosto breve, ma classicamente Primus, come al solito ritmato, abbastanza ispirato e piacevole. Apparizione di Justin Chancellor (Tool) nei "panni" vocali del Goblin Master sul pezzo di apertura The Valley. Probabilmente non è il disco da consigliare a chi non ha mai sentito parlare dei Primus, ma decisamente possiamo dire che il trio californiano non è ancora da pensionare.
And so, surprisingly, here's the ninth disc of the legendary Primus. The album is yet another return of Tim Alexander on the drum (back in the line up already from the previous "Primus & the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble"), and unlike the previous album, it contains original material (which was missing from "Green Naugahyde" in 2011), but even this record is inspired by a book / fairy tale. We are talking about "The Rainbow Goblins", by the Italian artist Ul de Rico, who define himself as "painter, stage & set designer and translator of emotions".
Les Claypool was used to reading this fairy tale to his children when they were small, and he has always been fascinated by the vibrant artwork and the use of colors. He decided to submit it to Larry LaLonde and Tim Alexander, after which a disc was released; rather classic Primus, as usual rhythmically, quite inspired and pleasing. Justin Chancellor (Tool) as guest in the Goblin Master's vocal "cloths", on the opening track "The Valley". Probably not the record to recommend to anyone who has never heard of Primus, but we can definitely say that the California trio is not yet retired.
