Gli inglesi di Southend-on-Sea, per arrivare al quinto disco, hanno percorso un tracciato che li ha portati dal garage punk-rock ad una sorta di affascinante ambient pop, che naturalmente si porta dietro tutte le altre loro influenze (shoegaze, goth, perfino il trip-hop di Manchester). V, uscito da qualche settimana, sfodera una copertina che ha generato qualche polemica di plagio (opera di Erik Ferguson, che è stato accusato di aver plagiato lavori di Jesse Kanda), e un campionario di canzoni che riecheggiano perfino i Simple Minds (ascoltate World Below e ditemi cosa vi ricorda...se avete tra i 45 e i 55 anni) e gli Human League, e comunque tutto quel momento di post new wave degli anni '80, naturalmente innestato su tutte le influenze sopra citate. Onestamente, non mi esaltano particolarmente, e trovo l'ascolto piuttosto piatto, non brutto ma senza nessun picco particolare.
The Southend-on-Sea Britons, to arrive at the fifth album, went along a track that took them from the punk-rock garage to a sort of fascinating ambient-pop, which of course brings back all their other influences (shoegaze, goth, even the Manchester trip-hop). V, released from a few weeks, with a cover that has generated some controversy of plagiarism (cover by Erik Ferguson, who was accused of plagiarism toward Jesse Kanda's work), and a bunch of songs that even remind the Simple Minds (listen to "World Below" and tell me what to remind you ... if you are between the age of 45 and 55) or the Human League, and in any case all that post new wave of the 1980's, naturally grafted on all the aforementioned influences. Honestly, they do not excel me particularly, and I find rather flat listening, not ugly but without any particular spike.
