I mancuniani Amplifier, una delle band più sottovalutate dell'era moderna, sono talmente low profile che ogni volta in cui fanno uscire un nuovo disco, se ne accorgono in pochi: io, ad esempio, che li ascolto sempre con piacere, sono arrivato a questo loro recente Trippin With Dr. Faustus con quasi un anno di ritardo. Mi sono sempre sembrati una versione più "pulita" dei Soundgarden, con echi forti dei Genesis. Dal 2011 hanno inglobato in formazione Steve Durose, reduce dallo scioglimento degli amici e compaesani Oceansize, diventando a tutti gli effetti un quartetto, e proseguono nel loro cammino, alternando EP ad album di lunga durata. Atmosfere hard rock, psichedeliche, progressive, liriche ispirate alla fantascienza, composizioni complesse e robuste, tecnica sopraffina. Godibili su disco, sono una di quelle band che rendono ancor di più dal vivo, e prima o poi riuscirò a vedere un loro live completo (per un ritardo che ancora oggi maledico, l'unica volta che li ho visti, sono arrivato durante l'ultimo pezzo del loro show).

Enjoyable on record, they are one of those bands that make even more live, and sooner or later I will be able to see one of their complete live (for a delay that still today I curse, the only time I saw them, I arrived during the last track of their show).
