Dopo 30 anni, così come i Pearl Jam, i Mudhoney sono ancora qui. Ce lo ricordano con questo disco dal vivo, che ripercorre la loro appunto trentennale carriera, dal folgorante debutto omonimo del 1989, al loro ultimo lavoro in studio Vanishing Point del 2013. Non è superfluo dire che a differenza dei loro conterranei (i già citati PJ), la band di Mark Arm (per chi non lo sapesse, una sorta di Iggy Pop underground, ma, come diceva Antonio Albanese in una delle sue molteplici incarnazioni, "mooolto underground") ha scelto una strada diversa, ha scelto di non cambiare, e di rimanere ancorata a quella miscela di fuzz-punk-grunge che li ha contraddistinti fin dai loro esordi. I loro live sono rimasti energici e soddisfacenti, e questo live (registrato nel 2016 durante uno dei loro tanti tour europei) ha un pregio ed un difetto: la carica è intatta durante le esecuzioni, ma il "montaggio" che dissolve tutti i pezzi stronca ogni tentativo, da parte degli ascoltatori, di rivivere (o di vivere) l'esperienza live. Oltre alla carrellata dei pezzi che ripercorre la loro carriera, c'è anche una cover, nientemeno che di Editions of You, dei Roxy Music.
After 30 years, as well as Pearl Jam, the Mudhoney are still here. They remember it to us with this live album, which traces their thirty year career, from the dazzling 1989 homonymous debut, to their latest work in the studio, Vanishing Point, of 2013. It is not superfluous to say that unlike their countrymen (the aforementioned PJ), the band of Mark Arm (for those who do not know, a sort of undergound Iggy Pop, but, as Antonio Albanese said in one of his many incarnations, "veeeery underground") they chose a different path, they chose not to change, and to remain anchored to that mixture of fuzz-punk-grunge that has distinguished them since their inception. Their live gigs have remained energetic and satisfying, and this live (recorded in 2016 during one of their many European tours) has a merit and a flaw: the charge is intact during the performances, but the editing that dissolves all the tracks destroys every attempt by the listeners to relive (or live) the live experience. In addition to the track list, that traces their career as we already said, there is also a cover version, none other than Editions of You, originally by Roxy Music.
