When Legends Rise - Godsmack (2018)

Pare che la band di Lawrence, Massachusetts, volesse "creare un nuovo suono" nell'occasione di questo settimo album. Ci può stare, anche se a me sembra solamente una semplice progressione, da un qualcosa che si poteva definire come a metà strada tra post-grunge e nu-metal, ad un metal quasi classico influenzato da tutto quello che è venuto prima. Il disco è godibile, da gente come noi che abbisogna della regolare dose di chitarre distorte, lo stile di canto di Sully Erna è sempre nella scia del miglior Hetfield, il suono è molto potente, anche nelle ballad (Under Your Scars), e se vogliamo trovare un paio di pecche, possiamo senza dubbio dire che non c'è grandissima originalità, e che i pezzi non sono poi così diversi l'uno con l'altro.

It seems that the band of Lawrence, Massachusetts, wanted to "create a new sound" on the occasion of this seventh album. It's ok, even if it seems to me only a simple progression, from something that could be defined as halfway between post-grunge and nu-metal, to an almost classic metal influenced by all that came before. The album is enjoyable, from people like us who need the regular dose of distorted guitars, Sully Erna's singing style is always in the wake of the best Hetfield, the sound is very powerful, even in ballads (Under Your Scars), and if we want to find a couple of flaws, we can certainly say that there is no great originality, and that the tracks are not so different from each other.
