Il sesto disco della band di Jacksonville, Florida, mi è piaciuto molto di più del precedente, e non solo perché, come si può sentire e come afferma il chitarrista Zach Myers, è più "duro" di Threat to Survival. A parte il fatto che sia un concept album (che narra la progressione di un personaggio che, al momento dell'inizio del disco, e quindi della storia, si trova in un momento della sua vita particolarmente negativo, a livello mentale ed emozionale), il disco, seppur fatto da clichés, come del resto la musica degli Shinedown, è strutturato bene, i pezzi sono validi, alcuni più di altri ma non ci sono riempitivi, e si lascia ascoltare con interesse. Giusto per ricordarvelo, siamo dalle parti dell'hard rock, e la band è stata definita come alternative metal, post-grunge e alternative rock: le chitarre la fanno da padrone, i tempi sono pari, il cantante ha una bella voce, si ricerca la melodia. Si flirta con il nu-metal (scimmiottando, ogni tanto, l'hip-hop in alcune parti di cantato), con l'elettronica di base, il suono è comunque duro, anche se i pezzi sono orecchiabili.
The sixth record of the Jacksonville, Florida band, I liked it a lot more than the previous one, and not only because, as the guitarist Zach Myers says, it is "harder" than Threat to Survival. Apart from the fact that it is a concept album (which narrates the progression of a character who, at the beginning of the record, and therefore of the story, finds himself in a particularly negative moment of his life, mentally and emotionally), the disc, even if made by clichés, as well as the music of the Shinedown, is well structured, the tracks are valid, some more than others but there are no fillers, and lets listen with interest. Just to remind you, we are in an hard rock zone, and the band has been defined as alternatives metal, post-grunge and alternative rock: the guitars are the master, the times are even, the singer has a beautiful voice, they search the melody. They flirts with the nu-metal (sometimes mimicking hip-hop in some parts of the song), with the basic electronics, the sound is still hard, even if the tracks are catchy.
