Anche i Queensryche, nonostante li avessi totalmente abbandonati a livello di informazioni e di ascolti, in tutti questi anni hanno proseguito imperterriti a fare musica, seppure abbiano avuto cambi di formazione e dispute legali in seguito al "divorzio" dall'ex cantante Geoff Tate, avvenuto nel 2012. Hanno trovato un altro cantante, dal timbro identico (Todd La Torre, ex Crimson Glory), e sono andati avanti. Questo The Verdict, quindicesimo disco in studio, vede tra l'altro La Torre anche alla batteria, dato il fatto che lo storico batterista Scott Rockenfield ha deciso di prendersi uno iato indefinito (ragioni non chiare). E, credeteci o no, a mio personalissimo ma insindacabile giudizio, è davvero un bel disco, un disco di quell'heavy metal vagamente progressivo che bisogna saper fare con giudizio, per non annoiare a morte l'ascoltatore. I Queensryche erano maestri in tutto ciò, ricordo ancora con molto piacere grandi dischi fatti di pezzi tirati, grandi assoli, bellissime ballate, e devo riconoscere che non mi paiono cambiati, nonostante le vicissitudini e l'età: potete evincerlo già solo da un pezzo come Dark Reverie, secondo me bellissimo. Il resto del disco è all'altezza, ed è piacevolissimo da ascoltare. Sorprendenti.

And believe it or not, in my personal but unquestionable judgment, it is really a good record, a record of that vaguely progressive heavy metal that you need to know how to do judiciously, so as not to bore the listener to death. The Queensryche were masters in all this, I still remember with great pleasure great records made of heavy tracks, great solos, beautiful ballads, and I must admit that they do not seem changed to me, despite the vicissitudes and age: you can deduce it just by a song as Dark Reverie, in my opinion beautiful. The rest of the record is up to par, and it's a pleasure to listen to. Surprising.
