Strana creatura quella dei Puddle of Mudd di Wes Scantlin, ex ragazzo, adesso 47enne, in questo momento, sembra, finalmente sobrio, unico superstite della formazione originale. Formatisi nel 1991, sull'onda post grunge, non sono mai stati originali, ma hanno sempre fatto dischi pieni di canzoni piacevoli, almeno per chi amava quel tipo di musica e di atmosfera. Nonostante abbiano sempre subito feroci critiche, in ognuno dei loro dischi sono sempre riuscito a trovare canzoni delle quali mi innamoravo, a volte perfino perdutamente (la loro We Don't Have To Look Back Now è uno di quei pezzi che non riesco a dimenticare, nemmeno volendo). Questo Welcome to Galvania è il loro quinto disco in studio, ed esce a 10 anni di distanza dal precedente, anche se il silenzio era stato interrotto nel 2011 con re:(disc)overed, un album di cover. Essendo l'unico rimasto della formazione originale, come detto, la band ormai è una l'estensione della vita di Wes, che ha vissuto una vita evidentemente difficile e turbolenta (gli episodi imbarazzanti non si contano più, anche con la band, tutti a causa sua e delle sue dipendenze e delle sue intemperanze), e naturalmente, risente di tutto ciò. Nel complesso è un disco un po' più debole dei precedenti, con testi maggiormente concentrati su una sorta di redenzione. Si possono trovare comunque buone canzoni, anche se è innegabile sia un disco per nostalgici, dato che niente è cambiato, nel loro stile, dagli inizi degli anni '90 ad oggi.

Although they have always suffered fierce criticism, on each of their records I have always managed to find songs that I fell in love with, sometimes even hopelessly (their We Don't Have To Look Back Now is one of those tracks that I can't forget, not even wanting to). This Welcome to Galvania is their fifth studio album, and comes out 10 years after the previous one, even though the silence was interrupted in 2011 with re:(disc)overed, a cover album. Being the only one left of the original line-up, as mentioned, the band is now an extension of the life of Wes, who lived an obviously difficult and turbulent life (the embarrassing episodes can no longer be counted, even with the band, all of them at because of him and his dependencies and his excesses), and of course, it is affected by this. Overall it is a slightly weaker record than the previous ones, with lyrics more focused on a sort of redemption. You can still find good songs, even if it is undeniable that it is a record for nostalgics, since nothing has changed, in their style, from the early 90s to today.
