Terzo disco per la band di Brooklyn, New York City, primo per me. Il disco, come spesso accade, è costruito sul percorso post-riabilitazione (droghe, soprattutto) del leader (chitarra e voce) Zachary Cole Smith, quantomeno a livello di testi, ed è sorprendente quanto possa suonare fresco un miscuglio di influenze tra i Sonic Youth e lo shoegaze, infarcito da un post grunge tendente soprattutto alla semplicità diretta dei pezzi dei Nirvana. Certo, non siamo di fronte né ad un album troppo variegato, né a qualcosa che rivoluziona la storia musicale, ma si fa ascoltare, con quella delicatezza sghemba, e quel contrasto tra il soffice cantato di Smith, e le dissonanze in sottofondo.
Third record for the band from Brooklyn, New York City, first for me. The record, as often happens, is built on the post-rehabilitation path (drugs, above all) of the leader (guitar and voice) Zachary Cole Smith, at least at a lyrics level, and it is surprising how fresh can sound a mixture of influences between Sonic Youth and the shoegaze, peppered with a post grunge nostalgia, tending above all to the direct simplicity of Nirvana's tracks. Of course, we are not dealing either with an album that is too varied, or with something that revolutionizes musical history, but it makes itself listen, with that crooked delicacy, and that contrast between the soft singing of Smith, and the dissonances in the background.
