Anche questa volta, ho provato a fare come fa la maggioranza degli appassionati di musica, e dire che il nuovo disco dei Bush faceva cagare, giusto dopo il primo o il secondo ascolto. Deciso a scriverne male, mi sono seduto davanti al pc, e l'ho fatto partire. E mi sono ritrovato a pensare che, in fondo, non era così male.
E' vero, probabilmente la band di Rossdale (divorziato da Gwen Stefani, lui è attualmente coach per la sesta stagione di The Voice UK) ha avuto tempi migliori, più rock, più hard, più grunge, ma si sa, tutti cambiano, e certamente i Bush non sono mai stati la band più dura che si fosse sentito nel campo musicale: la loro ricerca melodica, a volte pacchiana, a volte azzeccata, è sempre esistita, ed ha sempre guidato la loro ricerca. Niente di nuovo, stavolta, se non qualche episodio bruttino, e qualche altro sorprendente, roba che magari poteva stare nel disco solista di Rossdale (People At War, per dire), e molti pezzi prevedibili, magari con una strofa insignificante, ma con un ritornello innegabilmente interessante (già il primo singolo Mad Love ne è un chiaro esempio). Prendere o lasciare, questi sono i Bush oggi. Io, almeno per qualche giorno, prendo.
Again, I tried to do as the majority of music lovers, and say that the new Bush was a real crap, right after the first or second listen. Determined to write it badly about it, I sat in front of the pc, and I did start the third listening. And I found myself thinking that, after all, was not so bad.
It's true, probably the band of Rossdale (divorced from Gwen Stefani, he is currently coach for the sixth season of "The Voice UK") have had better times, more rock, more hard, more grunge, but you know, everyone changes, and certainly the Bush has never been the hardest band that was heard in music history: their melodic research, sometimes tacky, sometimes apt, has always existed and has always guided their music travel. Nothing new, this time, if not some ugly episode, and some other surprising stuff that maybe could've been stayed in the Rossdale solo album ("People At War", to name it one), and many predictable tracks, perhaps with an insignificant verse, but with a undeniably interesting chorus (already the first single, "Mad Love", is a clear example). Take it or leave it, these are the Bush today. I, at least for a few days, I'll take it.
